Allensworth is a unique place to work. We hire real people who love what they do and who enjoy being part of a close-knit team dedicated to serving our clients.
We are intentional about the people we hire because maintaining the firm’s culture is our top priority. Our commitment to respect and teamwork enriches our workplace and service to clients. This doesn’t happen by accident. We take our time to get to know candidates and allow them to truly get to know us. While that makes for a longer hiring process, we end up with incredibly talented people who stick with us for a long time. Over half of the partners began their careers at Allensworth right out of law school, and we have professional staff that recently celebrated 5-, 10-, and 20-year anniversaries with the firm.
Not only is Allensworth committed to hiring the right people for the job, we want to hire people who like to have fun. Our version of fun includes an annual pet costume contest, boat party, holiday party, family trick-or-treating, Fourth of July watch party, tailgating, and impromptu cocktails in the firm’s very own speakeasy. We also have more frequent activities like associate-only happy hours, firmwide happy hours and lunches, weekly breakfast, a lunchtime crossword crew, and events to celebrate new team members, anniversaries, and other holidays.
Our mentorship separates Allensworth from the rest. We have a structured mentorship program that ensures each person has a designated mentor to help guide their career and professional development. The firm incorporates an open-door policy and uses instant messaging to keep each leader and partner accessible to everyone at the firm. Finally, and above all, we are fiercely committed to our clients. Our job is to handle clients’ legal issues to allow them to do what they love: developing, designing, and constructing. Everyone at our firm puts our clients’ needs first. Sometimes that means thought leadership and staying at the forefront of case developments in Texas, other times that means visiting clients’ projects and offices and providing continuing education presentations. From legal work to legal scholarship, Allensworth provides unmatched service to our clients.
If this sounds appealing to you, you might be a good fit for the A-Team.
Allensworth offers skilled lawyers a unique experience as lateral attorneys. We do not have strict billable hour rules, origination requirements, and do not pigeonhole attorneys into a repetitive or monotonous docket. Our firm values providing our attorneys with direct access to all partners via an open-door policy and prioritizing communication and team building. Each attorney has a designated mentor to work with to acclimate to the firm, their new team, and learn the Allensworth way of serving clients.
We promote teamwork, reward initiative, and provide ample opportunities for professional growth, business development, and making a name for yourself with papers, presentations, and speeches. Younger lawyers are given opportunities to lead and undertake new challenges at a much earlier stage than at larger offices. Likewise, experienced construction attorneys who show leadership, drive, and a command of the law have the chance to accelerate their path to partnership compared to much larger firms.
We are proud of the number of women attorneys in leadership positions at our firm. This unique aspect of our construction law boutique provides important mentorship to both up-and-coming and more seasoned women attorneys. Mentorship is at the heart of our business practice. Not only do we ensure that each attorney receives mentorship from partners and more senior attorneys, we train each attorney to be able to provide mentorship to younger peers as well.
At Allensworth, you’ll see a remarkably positive culture, real collegiality, and a great place to practice law. When we bring in laterals, we’re not buying a book of business. We’re bringing in a great lawyer, a valued colleague, and someone who we believe has the drive, talent, and spirit to grow with our firm.
Law Students
Our summer clerk program is designed to present an alternative to the traditional big-law route: we select a few personable, motivated, engaging law students who want hands-on experience with law firm life and active mentorship that only a boutique firm can offer.
Our summer clerks work directly with some of the most experienced and talented construction lawyers in Texas. These attorneys, some of whom are also law school faculty and industry leaders, devote serious time and attention to training, teaching, and mentorship. Summer clerks sit in on mediations, hearings, and depositions, learn how to draft discovery and negotiate contracts, and experience firsthand our commitment to client service. We make the clerkship as similar to actual employment here as possible.
We also put a great deal of time and effort into the non-work part of summer clerk sessions. Our clerks get to know all our attorneys and professional staff through lunches, happy hours, and social events. We want to get to know our clerks as people, as well as professionals, to figure out whether they would thrive as a permanent part of the A-team. As a growing boutique firm that specializes in construction law, we have found great success in hiring from our summer clerk program.
Professional Staff
We have a remarkably talented group of legal assistants, paralegals, and administrative and business professionals, many of whom joined us early in their careers and have stayed for a long time. Our collegiality, teamwork, and cohesion play a key part in this.
Our professional staff are vital to the firm’s success. They’re highly capable and respected, enjoy a great deal of autonomy, and work side-by-side with our attorneys. We strive to minimize the hierarchies in many law firms by taking a collaborative, team approach and recognizing the contributions of all members of our team, not just attorneys. We value and appreciate all our team members.
The firm strongly supports advanced training for staff members, particularly with professional development and technology. Whether it’s involvement in professional associations, accounting classes, business or contract law classes, or almost any kind of certification or training, if it makes you better at your job and genuinely interests you, you’ve got our support. We know that our professional staff are essential to our success, and we treat them that way.
